Monthly Donations

The Victoria Hospital Foundation’s Monthly Giving Club makes giving easy. Together, we can achieve our mission!

Donors who join the Victoria Hospital Foundation’s Monthly Giving Club provide a stable and much-needed source of funding for year-round support of the areas of greatest need in our hospital.

Your monthly gifts will reduce costs for postage, paper and printing. This means that more of your dollars go directly to new and ongoing medical equipment needs at Victoria Regional Hospital and fund on-going initiatives.

You can sign up for monthly gifts of $10, $15, $25 or any amount you choose. Your donations are safely and securely automatically withdrawn from your bank account or processed on your credit cad every month – and you can change the amount or cancel at any time.

A minimum donation of $10 a month is required to join the Monthly Giving Club.

Ways to Join the Monthly Giving Club:

Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year. But when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in. Thank you for choosing your hospital.

The Victoria Hospital Foundation could not exist without the help of volunteers. From our Volunteer Board of Directors to volunteers helping at events, our Foundation relies heavily on the big-hearts of others who are willing to donate their time. We have opportunities available for almost all skill levels. Here are just a few things we could always use help with:

  • Data entry in our office
  • Answering phones on Give a Little Life Day
  • Delivering event flyers within the City
  • Stuffing envelopes for newsletters/mail outs
  • Golf Tournament set up/ tear down, hole in one, greeters

We’d be happy to have you onboard with us! If you think you can help us we’d be very appreciative! Even if you can only volunteer once a year, or as often as once a week, give us a call at (306) 765-6105 or contact us by email.

Stock and Security Donations

You may have stocks that have risen in value. By donating them to the Victoria Hospital Foundation you will no longer have to pay the capital gains tax. To qualify you must gift the shares to the The Victoria Hospital Foundation rather than sell the shares and donate the cash.

The Victoria Hospital Foundation will sell the shares converting them to cash usually on the day they are received into our stock account or the following business trading day. The Victoria Hospital Foundation will then issue a Charitable Tax Credit Receipt for the value of the stocks you have donated

You may wish to donate a portion of your stocks to wipe out the capital gains due and keep the rest of the funds for yourself.

You might want to purchase or assist with the purchase of a piece of equipment for the hospital. You could make your donation in stocks and a leave your savings untouched.

What CRA Considers A Publicly Traded Security

  • shares, debt obligations or rights listed on designated stock exchanges in Canada and internationally
  • shares of capital stock of a mutual fund corporation
  • units of a mutual fund trust
  • interests in related segregated fund trusts (an investment fund relating to an insurance policy)
  • prescribed debt obligations
  • partnership interests that are exchangeable for publicly traded securities (certain circumstances only)

Always consult a licensed professional with regards stock and security donations.

NOTE: Effective May 2, 2006… the federal budget eliminated the capital gains tax on a gift of publicly-traded securities to public charities (charitable organizations and public foundations). This will provide donors with excellent tax savings for securities donations.

Herb Basset Home

The Herb Bassett Home is located in beautiful Prince Albert – Saskatchewan’s 3rd largest city situated on the banks along the North Saskatchewan River. The home is adjacent to the Victoria Regional Hospital and offers 142 long term care beds and two respite beds. It is the largest long term care facility in the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region, and has been in operation since 1984.

This special care home offers a range of personal and health services to patients who require 24 hour care. The Herb Bassett Home also hosts space for the regional Adult Day Program—a part of the Home Care Program.

One of the goals of any long term care facility is to create a home-like environment that fosters respect, safety, dignity and compassion for all.

Not unlike other facilities, capital medical equipment, basic ‎resident rooms as well as residents’ common area furnishings are lacking. There has been an increase in complex care residents whose chronic conditions require intervention which, if the equipment was available, would produce positive outcomes assisting in lessening pain, reducing falls, maintaining skin integrity, and promoting nutrition.

Cognitively impaired residents would benefit from an ergonomic friendly space to ambulate indoors and out. An outdoor garden area prepared for such a population of residents would assist in maintaining mobility while stamping out boredom and loneliness.  The room furnishings are aged, some dating back to the opening in 1984. An update to the 140 rooms, as well as three common dining and living areas, would further the home like environment residents deserve.

Over the past 30 years, fundraising for the Herb Basset Home was done by volunteers of the Auxiliary. However, in recent years, their membership has been in decline and they are no longer able to raise the funds they once were. The Herb Basset Home has asked the Victoria Hospital Foundation to assist them in procuring funds to purchase much needed equipment for their residents.

Obstetrics Memory Box Fund

No parent can ever imagine having to be told their baby has died at a stage where they are preparing for a life with their newborn.

The shock and numbness is unimaginable. When people think about baby loss they think of the loss of a tiny life. Baby loss however is so much more. It’s the loss of an entire lifetime. A lifetime of plans, of memories, of hopes and dreams.

Each box along with items included in the box costs approximately $130.00. A generous donation was provided to launch the program but ongoing donations are required to sustain it. One hundred percent of all donations go directly to the Obstetrics Memory Box fund. Donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt.
